About Michael Meyerhofer

I’m basically the Red Mage of the literary world. I’ve been fortunate enough to publish five poetry books, five poetry chapbooks, and two epic fantasy trilogies. I’ve also published poems and short stories in an eclectic variety of journals including Asimov’s Science Fiction Magazine, Rattle, Hayden’s Ferry, Analog, Heroic Fantasy Quarterly, DIAGRAM, Gargoyle, Brevity, and Ploughshares. For about eight years now, I’ve been the Poetry Editor of Atticus Review. I’ve also been a teacher for about seventeen years, teaching a range of courses from Advanced Poetry Writing to Composition and an Honors course on Zen Literature, and have often volunteered for AWP’s mentorship program. Some people have rather generously described me as a decent and likeable human being.

What I've done

I’ve been the startled recipient of fourteen national writing awards including the James Wright Poetry Award, the Liam Rector First Book Award, and the Brick Road Poetry Book Prize. My most recent poetry book is Ragged Eden (Glass Lyre Press). I’m also the author of the bestselling Dragonkin Trilogy, an epic fantasy trilogy that successfully passes the Bechdel Test.

Who I work with

I am happy to work with aspiring writers, seasoned writers who just want some extra detailed feedback, and of course, students of all backgrounds and varieties.
